Difference between 24-70 F4 and 24-105?

I own a 24-105L and I like it a LOT.

I was considering getting the 24-70 f/4L and at this point I'm glad I didn't. More money, less range, and other than the macro (with a VERY close working distance) not much benefit in the IQ department. It's smaller and lighter though, which does count for something.

What would particularly bother me on the 24-70 f/4 is that it appears there's a lot of copy-to-copy variation. Playing "send it back and hope you like the next one" doesn't appeal to me very much, nor does buying something and then immediately having to send it to be calibrated/fixed.

It all depends what you're shooting. I find that I'm always shooting in low light, and can't imagine being limited to F4. But... for walking around lens... or for travel... the 24-105 would be great. I just don't want to buy both.

Yes, but I like the IS too much to give it up in the f/2.8.
