In North Fort Myers Florida, right beside a busy highway, a pair of bald eagles built their nest several years ago. This year, two babies hatched right around New Year's Day. This is the female tending the nest while male is out searching for food, which I see on the eaglecam he just delivered some of, about a half hour ago. The cam is a 24/7 cam with infrared which they say does not bother the eagles. You can see the cam of these birds here. (external link)

Great set Ian. You're sure getting some great shots down there.

Thanks for the Eagle cam link, I was getting nervous watching the chicks get close to the edge.

Excellent shots Ian. The eagles where I live won't lay eggs until early to mid March.

There will be days when you get the shot(s) you missed days, months or years before.

Thanks Steve, yeah the chicks are pretty little. I think I got a peek in some shots taken today later.

LOL, Ted, the eagles where I live don't have chicks until mid-May! And thanks for the comments :)

That's a terrific set Ian. Interesting to see the physical size of the nest on the Eagle Cam, it is bigger than I thought it would be. It also looks weird with all the traffic roaring past on the freeway only a few metres from the nest tree. Thanks for posting those and the camera link.

Another great series Ian. So bright even with the 2x. Don't you love the Florida sun?

Thanks, Don, yes it's such great light, not too bright even at midday in winter :)

Oh Lloyd their nests are huge, often weighing over 2 tons and the size of a small car. I know of one nest back home that they kept making bigger every year until it broke the branches holding it, and it fell to the ground. Yes, you would think they could pick a more private spot, wouldn't you? Thanks for commenting.

I only see one adult eagle, where is the other? Is that one still hunting?

I have no idea where the male is, but they can't hunt in the dark, so he's likely perched in a tree close by.
