1st one for me, I love the lighting on the wings as the other has mentioned and he is looking at the camera which makes it an engaging picture.

@Andy when there is not much contrast say with Cookie then the camera will struggle to focus as well.

I know it is easier said than done but also a clear background like the sky helps so the camera will not get confused as to what you want it to focus on.

Sadly it gets to the point where the only improvement is to get a better camera. 5D mkIII has hugely improved my keeper rate for things being in focus.

Are you actually telling me that my photos are being held back by the gear I own??

this is my favourite shot from last year of the barn owls and I was going to enter some comps with it along with some others I have but im not sure which is best colour wise as I just cant make my mind up...

I think #1 looks the most natural if a little "cool" but the #2 which has more "warmth" whilst still holding the whites 'white' is perhaps the most aesthetically pleasing

When it comes to things like birds in flight it definitely helps, can't comment on the lenses as I have not used them but certainly for the bodies yes

All this talk of the 5DMkIII does make me envious...............​the only way I could even contemplate (read that as justify to SWMBO )such spending would be to sell some pictures and 2013 has the year I "do it", just the what, where, when & how to sort out & organise As it stands now too much time spent being a wage slave (when has it never been ) leaving too little time to get myself moving on the matter
