I will be making a trip out to Vegas at the end of February and would like to make a trip over to Zion for some photography. My question is whats the weather like and what should I bring (Lenses, filters, polarizer? Is there snow? I will only have one full day to photograph. Driving up Sunday morning for the day. What are the best places to get some great photos this time of year and maximize my time. Thanks.

PS I really like the narrows and subway, can one photograph down there this time of year?

Welcome! Please don't post the same thing in multiple forums. (The same thing is posted in the Discuss Nature and Landscapes forum.)

Thanks,

Since you only have a day, the Subway is not an option. The Subway is/can be a dangerous hike in February. If you are not familiar with the route, winter snows and ice will make it all the more difficult. You will need a permit. Most importantly, limited daylight will be a factor. The Narrows is doable, with a dry suit, which can be rented at Zion Adventure Company. Check on the river flow when you get there. In addition, the paved mile from sinawava to the Narrows starting point is sometimes closed due to ice. Again, you have limited time, so the Narrows and logistics might not align. Many of Zions trails can be impacted by ice during the winter. By all means - go. There are still plenty of opportunities for great winter photography. East Zion beyond the long tunnel, might be an option. Lots of sandstone color. Always carry a polarizer with you.
