There seems to be confusion why photojournalists cover camera logos with gaff tape..

Not saying I got the "only reason".

Glad you cleared that up.

As CDI stated, ribbing a little is fine, but we simply don't tell folks to go away. Everyone has their opinions and are free to share them and we should always welcome new opnions and discussions, even if we don't always agree with them.

I read same gaff tape topic here couple of years ago.

I taped my DSLR once I started to take candids.
Now I switched to b/w film for it and I taped and marked black some white spots on my Olympus XA.

I don't know...for me PJ would be someone who could take some small camera or wide/normal prime if it is DSLR and make great story by taking right pictures on right moment.
If someone wear huge gripped DSLR with huge zoom, it is more like assignment to take pictures.
Not journalism.

Welcome to the forum Patrick.

Thanks for the insights. Whether or not the existence of readable brand names and model numbers really impacts portrait quality, well I guess people can make their own judgements on that. I'm skeptical by nature, but I don't do PJ work for a living, either.

One thing I don't want is every portrait subject asking, "Why do you have that tape on your camera? Is it broken?" That would take time to answer, and time is money. Heck, I have a bigger problem getting 3 out of 4 people in a group shot to look in my general direction and get their fingers out of their noses.

if youre on an assignment, and its for a paper or magazine, its STILL journalism...

as far as taping logos, been shooting pj on and off since 1985. NEVER saw any photographer with a taped up logo...

doesnt really matter to me right now, im camera-less having sold my 7d and grip. gave the 17-55 f2.8 to my wife...
