It is noisy in terms - I could hear it. And not only I. This is why I'm not using it for candids anymore. Only for events reportage.

was talking about this post:

Looking at these amazing photos I'm seeing that they have some noise in most of them..... Could it be that they were shot with a 5Dc. It is "pleasing" looking noise... Anyway, I long to take pictures as good as these and feel an upgrade to the 5Dc will be the first step along with starting to use off camera lighting.

I just realized it is the same word for what we see and what we hear

So I liked the noise I'm getting from pictures, but I don't like the noise it is making.

It has been cold here (cold, that is, for us - 38 F), but with a little sun, there still is a bloom or two. These two braved the elements.....Joe

I hope you win, cause the 5D classic it still a beauty. And you will be able to take many beautiful pictures of your lady. Did you tell her that? So much more beautiful than with the T1...;););):lol::lol:

Yes I'll be sure to convince her :D

Visited the MoMa today for my Architecture Design class, and here are a few photos that I particularly liked.

I Sold my T2i a few weeks back, with the sole intention of upgrading to a 5Dc. As time has begun to pass and I have been searching for the right camera to purchase, I have felt the pull of the darkside. I thought long and hard of switching to Nikon and giving the D300 a go for the excellent DR. I almost pulled the trigger on one, and then...as a last moment comparison of images between the two (5D and D300), I happened upon the image above. BananaRaw (and also Max Powers' fence image, which were one after another on the Flicker 5Dc group, just like here), I wanted to take the time to let you know that your image spoke so much to me that I have decided to go with my original plan of getting the 5Dc. BananaRaw, blow that sucker up and hang it above the fireplace, because it is a damn fine capture. As soon as I can find a good one, I'll be posting right along with you fine folks.

The cross is constructed of 2 two feet fluorescent strip lights. Generally these are found in (older) homes above a sink window soffit to act as a night time substitute for daylight. The lateral one is facing forward, and the rear one is turned upside down, and they are most likely mounted together using a close or chase nipple and lock nuts that travel through the entrance ports in the housing for the wiring. The wiring enters the fixtures through a 1/2" hole that, prior to being knocked out, would look just like the 4 circles seen on the rear fixture (2 above and 2 below the front fixture).

*shrugs* I used to be an electrician's apprentice in my youth and I installed many of these when finishing new houses in the early '90's.

Wow, thanks for the VERY descriptive reply. Never actually thought the vertical element was another light strip. :) Learning new things everyday.
Here's one more from today.

Rasidel, I was surprised to read that you added noise...! I like it much more in this one as opposed to the one from the previous page with the guy in the picture..

All of them look better than the gritty, ugly noise my T1i produces at 1600-3200 iso and up. :)

I'm glad you mentioned it - yeah these days all my B&W work I am adding grain. It's funny because I am doing NR in LR, and then also adding grain. But that is where you are defeating the camera's somewhat artificial looking noise and adding LR's, which looks more like film. It gives a more 'journalistic' type of look that I like.

here is the same shot with full NR applied (and no grain):

Both versions look great, but I must say I like the one with added film-like grain to it better!! I just saw that you favorited a couple of my photos..QUITE the honor, sir. I have favorited quite a lot of yours in the past. If you recall, I was the one who suggested that you name your traffic/desert/mirage photo "Life". :D

Also, I saw on your EXIF data that you used flash--what flash modifier did you use--bounce card perhaps? Looks really nice :)

Here are a couple photos from the 5D3 thread which I feel like could benefit from added noise..

Hi all in cs5 raw the curve is standard on medium contrast... you all don't touch this? or do you costimize the curve for each picture? And what picture style you all use as a starting point?
