Wondering if anyone here is going to shoot the Mavericks Surf comp this Sunday either professionally or for the thrill and experience? I know they've changed how it is for spectators but is it pretty pointless unless your media to photograph it? The Mavericks Comp website isn't the most up to date site around being that its been 3yrs since the last one :(

I'd really love to make it out there especially if theres a chance or possibility to photograph it. Should be amazing out there!

i think they made a horrible decision by not allowing people on to the cliffs/beach...i don't see why anyone would even bother going out there, to pay to watch it on a screen...seems like the beginning of the end if you ask me...unless they wisen up and change that decision down the road...but i think it's going to cost the town a lot of money...

so yeah, my answer is no...i'm not going out there, because i think the only option would be renting a boat if you want to see it in person

Yeah I found their updated website and contacted them and the charter boat option is the only option. Which I'm sure is a bit $$$. I understand preserving the area, but it does suck to go all the way there and be so close yet so far away. I'm sure people with media credentials get complete access, but the rest of us can't even get anywhere close enough even just to catch a glimpse of it live.

Yeap! I don't know if the exact link has been released yet, but the official site will have it up Sunday :)

Hey GOA510 - if you have some surfing pics from times past - stop by the surf photo thread!
