After LOTS of research, comparing the Sigma 35 with the new Canon 35 with IS, I ruled them both out. The Sigma is probably heavier than I want and the Canon 35mm f/2 IS still has a pretty hefty price tag.
So I decided to go with the 28mm f/2.8 IS (!) instead. Just ordered it from Amazon where this lens runs $80 less than Adorama and B&H. It is also $230.00 less than the Canon 35mm. I have read some reviews and viewed sample images and it seems very sharp. Will share pictures when it arrives. I think I made the right choice for my needs.
I originally didn't care for the 28mm on the FF, but that was before I learned to use the 5D II with the same lens as I used on the crop. I think when I first got the FF, I was just overwhelmed with so much to learn, so I sold all my primes and waited until I knew what I needed/wanted and funny thing is, I ended up with the same FL on all primes as what I had before!
