Well, Nottingham is almost Hampshire - give or take a 2 hour drive.

It's 3 hours actually and I am leaving Lymington tomorrow morning after a week's holiday and returning to Nottingham. Had a blast. Great place with lots of photo opportunities especially if you l like wildlife. Here's a Little Egret that saw at the Salterns.

Two hours, what's your car a Red Bull F1

Incidentally The Watercress Line have cancelled trains for the weekend, in case anyone was thinking about snow shots.

Haha, it's not too bad - we did it in just over two hours in a clapped out landrover with a 40 foot boat trailer!
Plumtreelad, watch out when you're driving up today - the roads are terrible at the moment, the snow turned to rain for a bit early this morning and it's pretty icy everywhere.

From home, in Hampshire (admittedly as far north in Hampshire as is possible) to Nottingham is just a touch over 2 hours on a good run. Honest. And without travelling at breakneck speeds. From Lymington I would have thought 3 hours was pushing it. Hope you have a good run.

Not everybody's cup of tea, but I thought it was a bit atmospheric with the hunter and the snow ???

I was out helping with the deer cull in the New forrest and I just thought it was a bit more interesting and than someone standing with a gun next to a dead animal

I like this shot Doc although I have no taste for the trophy shot of gun toting man by kill.
It's a shame you were not able to get a more frontal shot so we had some connection with the hunter, but the rear angle has its merits.

Lester
this is no trophy shooting but part of the cull that has to take place in the New forrest and indeed over the whole of the UK to keep the deer population under control and healthy. It is carried out by people who work hard in often harsh conditions, The carcasses go to the game dealers and then into the food chain, Trophy hunting is something very different where clients pay to be taken to an animal ie a buck with large antlers and then take the head in return they pay very large sums of money. Not what this picture portrays ( I hope). This is what living in rural UK means.

I think the rear angle highlights the deer which may be lost in a frontal shot. this was a grab shot and it was difficult enough to keep up with this chap even though he was dragging a deer, the benefit of youth !!

Not sure about the deer pic - but whatever floats yer boat I guess.
Been pretty much laid up with the Flu of late, despite having the jab which I think I left too late to get done, so nothing at all from me.

Seeing Marks night shots from before Xmas (think it was, without trailing back through the pages) I did have a go on New years day early evening - not brilliant but at least I can say I tried - and another one from around November of Portsmouth at night taken from Hayling Beach.

Nice shots Cogs. I've seen fieldfares on occasion, but never got close enough for a good shot.

Mark.
