I ran some more tests! I checked my 50mm 1.8 II and my 15-85 and they both seem to focus just fine, which makes me think again it could be the lens itself. What I don't get then, is why it seems to work just fine on the 600D and not on my 550D. I'm actually hoping it's the lens, so I can just exchange it without having my camera in a repair center for a month.
Any thoughts or advice on this issue?

Sorry guys! Just saw I'm writing in the Sample Photo topic, I will redirect my question on the normal lens forum!

Well, I can't say that I'm not interested in this lens, but I think I'm gonna hold off until the USB docking thingy arrives.

Hopefully that thing will allow people to calibrate and fix all focus issues in the lens.

dennismarquez:

Yes it's the lens (and the fact that you dont have MA on your body). did you buy online or local? If local, go back and try a new one. Try it there. For fast prime lenses, always try before buy. If online, be sure you can exchange.

The lens is not broken or anything, it just not calibrated perfectly with your body. It's normal. normally you can send your lens to Sigma and they will callibrate it.

I think it will, the picture on SIGMA's webiste isn't very clear, but I think it will allow to adjust the FF/BF for 4 points based on the shooting distance (more options for zooms) and that should take care of any AF problems mentioned here. I wish Canon would make their version of this device.

I think that USB will fix 95% off all issues. But at the same time, why should we require that tool to make our lens work properly?

Hopefully it will be cheap to rent somewhere... Because another $200 is a bit annoying. I have a feel though that tool will be flying around the buy and sell with very little loss in resale... So people can use it, adjust their lens and pass it on. So ill probably wait for that if anything.

Thanks for the answer!
I bought the lens local. I will go back tomorrow and try a new one. I really hope they can exchange it for a good one. I'm leaving for 3 months this thursday! Just did some more tests in bright daylight but the problems are the same.
