the short of it (if you dont want to go to the listing) is:

7,000 clicks.
extra battery.
RRS "L" plate/bracket.
pristine/like new condition.

$3,599 for the deal...

would this stand up against a 5Diii? i didnt come onto the DSLR scene soon enough to learn much about these before they were cut from the line up...

If it's genuine then it would be a great deal, I think there'd be a queue lining up at his door if it was over in the UK and I'd probably be there first.

I don't consider it as a great deal. (It might be considered as such in Europe.) A great deal for a 1D Mark IV for me right now is somewhere around $2,800 or under. With the extras, maybe $3,000.

If you're worried that this might be a scam, it's probably not. A scam that I've seen on Craigslist normally offers something at a ridiculous price. Like a 1D Mark IV with 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II for $2,500. For this one, it's the price at a legit seller is likely looking for.

Regarding 5D Mark III vs 1D Mark IV, they mainly serve different purposes. I'll go with a 5D Mark III if you don't have anything specific in general or do mostly portrait and landscape. If you do wildlife or sport, you should go with the 1D Mark IV as it's still one of the best, if still not the best, Canon DSLRs in that category.

On the other end of the spectrum - examples of scams may be, oh - a T2i with kit lens for $1200. See those all the time too.

not that the 1D mark 4 is a poor choice for portraiture... I wouldnt rank any 1D(original excluded) as being worse than any 5D for portraiture. All the files still look beautiful.

1D4 is definitely not a poor choice, but I still prefer 5D3 over it though. :)
