Red Fox

I went back Sunday morning hoping to find one of the Fox's again...found one sleeping at the base of a Pine tree. All images/video taken with a Canon 1D4 and a 500mm f/4L with and without a Canon 1.4III extender and a tripod.

These are great !!!! love them all. very cool that you get to see these guys in the wild like this... I would love to see and get photos of them !!!

This is such a great series , liking them all, #4 was my favorite until I saw #5, it is just unbelievable.

Thank you everyone. I'm really a bird photographer at heart but after having a pair of Gray Fox's move into my backyard I was on a quest to find and photograph a pair of Red Fox's. I heard about them last year but never went and investigated.....this year I decided to go and I was not dissapointed. The property owners respect wildlife, do not feed them and are very protective of their presence on their property. The Fox's are used to people walking around for the most part and will let you know they don't want to be bothered by walking away. Knowing this and not pushing it is the best thing for the Fox's and respecting the wishes of the property owners allows a few to return from time to time but it's not advertised. Some framed prints are given to the property owners and they appreciate the gesture....it's the least I could do.

Brilliant shots. I just can't pick a favourite from them.

The only time I ever got that close to a fox it was RABID! Great shots. I was trying to shoot the one that was standing 3 feet in front of me growling at me. I got about 8 shots off point blank right at its head - and it still didn't die! Yes my shots were with a .22 and I had the barrel pointed right at the head of that critter. It had tried to get in my house about 3 times so I went outside to investigate knowing something was wrong (which is why I had my rifle).

So anyway great job of getting close enough to get shots like that. Even with the long lens (and yes I know it isn't a true "long lens") and the extender you still had to be pretty close for shots like that. Beautiful stuff!
