If I get time before I sell it then yes I will... The humming noise you get whilst the IS is active is exactly the same, and that's to be expected. It's just the start and stop noise that I think is louder than mine - having said that, on a video in a silent room it may be exactly the same. As I say, if I get time, I'll do a video for you :)

that would be pretty cool to compare. Do you think Canon can fix this if I send it in or it will do nothing to lower the noise..maybe it needs some tune up??

Okay so when recorded in a relatively quiet room and played back with the volume turned up, I would say they sound pretty similar. I guess I just wasn't used to hearing the noise magnified - sorry if I've caused a panic :p

Here's the video just in case 17-55 video (external link)

You should hear the racket that comes out of my 300/4. As I understand it, the older IS is noisy. I did rent a 17-55 and it made noises like that.

Zeiterphoto... that is EXACTLY how mine sounds. I wouldn't be at all worried, specially if you see its working (take some pictures at 1/15s with and without it).

Yours appear to stop a bit faster than mine (after releasing the half button), but that may not be the case at all... the sound, on the other hand, is precisely what I hear when shooting. Mine was purchased new and it did that from day one.

Best regards,
Rafa.

Why would you want to?! I have already seen more of that stupid figure right here in this thread (in awilli1715k's posts) than I can stand! ;)

Well, thanks you two. I just wasted 5 minutes on an unsuccessful Danbo Rule 34 search, for this thread. I can not believe it came up dry -- but I'm not looking too hard here from work...

Unfortunately I was just successful in googling for danbo rule 34. Turns out it's danbo porn. I hope I'm not now targeted with loads of unwanted stuff. About three different windows opened, all porn related.
