That's okay. I was hoping someone had found a way to "cheat" the f/4 down to 2.8 some how

You got me all excited.

Andres that is a quick decision but hold your horses.

I am going to talk to him again tomorrow and get the full report. Will post that later as I will be heading home tomorrow and off to the airport pretty early. I will call him from there so will not be able to post his comments until Thursday at least. 16 hours flight.

Actually, I was going to rush out with him in tow to grab it today but he told me to wait a couple of months for the usual price drop. It is costing close to 2300usd at this time.

Noted with thanks bobobird, will wait for your complete report!
Martin, moose, we are talking about the 24-70 indeed!

yes, but the wrong one... we are talking about the new just announced f4 that has "special" macro capabilities (hence me posting in the macro section), but bobobird thought we were talking about the f2.8mkII.

All cleared now.

There are still virtually no reviews of this lens or photos taken with it anywhere online. It makes me wonder if Canon did adequate market research before committing to this design. Hopefully if people continue to ignore it, the price will come down. I am still interested in it despite the fact that it is getting zero attention online.

Ryan, tell me about it, I have subscribed to every possible thread on the forum, but nothing conclusive.

Also, until a real macro shooter tests it, we will not know about the macro capabilities.

I am also still interested and keep putting off my 6D purchase. But even bundled with the 6D, right now, the price is still too ridiculous for my taste.

Well, I'm leaving this thread, because I recently purchased a 24-105mm with my new 6D. I just could not justify paying more than twice as much (after accounting for the kit discount) for the 24-70mm for similar optical quality and the macro capability. I suspect Canon will lose a lot of sales on this interesting lens from people like me until they find a way to lower the price. If it had been around $1100 USD, I probably would have bought it.

Ryan,

same for me, I got the 6D and 24-105 about a month ago. The price on that lens is ridiculous, I really wonder how many they will sell.

I really like it and all my "worries" were for nothing. I did not have the chance to do any macro so far, I am anxiously awaiting spring up here in Canada!

The "macro" feature will be convenient. But it won't compare to a prime macro lens. Those of use that use the primes exclusively most probably won't like the quality for serious field work. But I can see others using this lens as a possible one stop solution.

I'm in Canada. Isn't that weird!
