Just bought a $2500 lens, am I OCD or should I go back to exchange it?

it does work, and thats my main concern, would the next copy be better or worse optically? I haven't been able to really tell as all my shooting with the lens has been inside the house with my "noisy" 7D. But nothing is blurry or shout out loud sharp. Just me i guess.

To return one for another, then return that for the first one would be imbarrasing.

"Bad copies" with Canon L is IMO mostly urban legend.

What is certain is that chipped or worn paint greatly reduces the used value of a lens. This is because it usually indicates a *lot* of use or maybe abuse, and it's otherwise hard to tell that about a lens.

What we haven't seen is whether this is an actual chip or some tiny surface flaw in the paint that's normal.

MA won't cure a soft lens, and I didn't say there weren't any bad copies - just "mostly". Meaning the low probability of getting a bad replacement is likely to be less than the certainty of already having a lens that is worth less than was paid (assuming it is actually damaged).

as previously said, nicks indicate usage, sounds like someone had it on their body and "wasn't paying attention ". i'd return it or get a solid exchange. it would make me question the stores/sellers character if they were to try to sell a "new" lens with marks all over it or if any at all.

I would return it and buy a new one for $1950 (look under the Market watch forum if interested)

Personally I wouldn''t care if there are a few scratches on a lens if it is optically flawless but overpaying is a big no-no in my book.

I already said I only paid 2070 plus 13% tax. Is that an overpriced value considering NEW?

I'll try to take pics of the two little nicks, and then you guys can make a more informed decision.

Where the heck do you live (presuming you bought the lens where you live)? 13% tax is a total ripoff.

You have all the posts telling you to return it because you got a used item at new price. Why would you think that posting picture of this use would change anyone's mind?

I'm just not sure it's a return or just been unboxes at the store to show a customer. I'm afraid of exchanging it for a bad soft copy and have to do it all again

Either of those scenarios means used. As soon as it comes out of the box, one way or another, it's now used. Store takes it out of the box to show people, that now gets sold as DEMO, not New.

Also, I haven't heard of much copy variation on this lens, so I wouldn't be too worried about having to go through it again.
