I am looking for a slideshow software that will allow me to shot and import images into a folder and it show the newer images added after the slideshow starts.

Basically one I have a hand full of images in a specific folder and the slideshow software displays those images, any newer photos added will automatically be added to the slideshow. Is LR4 slideshow capable of such thing? What about photodex? I do not waht to keep creating a new slideshow after I imposrt new images into the folder.

Reason being is for events, shots from the event will be displayed on big screens though out the night, all I want to be able to do is dump the event shots into a folder.

is this even possible?

thanks

Sevan

Well, Lightroom will play whatever's in your folder, you don't have to create a file first if you have the computer with Lightroom on it.

But you would need to be able to Import new photos into the LR database, while LR is already playing a slideshow, to do what the OP wants to do...

So it really entails the need for software that does not maintain a 'database' file which needs to be updated, but simply deals with a simple list of file names in a Windows folder structure -- without the need to have previously 'selected' the files to be in the slide show.

Exactly!

I will be shooting tethered into LR4 so the images will be dropping into the folder automatically. I will have two monitors one for my printings and the second for the slideshow, or they might also have a larger TV for the slideshow. All the slideshow software i have seen needs a data base created , before it plays.

So this would be interesting -- you are shooting tethered, meaning LR will automatically Import the images when you've taken them. Now the question is, would the Slideshow automatically incorporate those imported images without having to restart it? That's the question 'cause I don't know the answer!

I ran a test and Yes!!! I had 5 images in the folder, those images were a 'welcome' image, the 'events name' image, a 'presented by' image and then the two images of the companies hosting the event, then it would roll into the images. So I started the slideshow on a second monitor, and stated to shoot tethered and when it looped back the newly added images showed up on the new run.

But on the second monitor in the upper right corner is a play button that's all i pressed nothing on the first monitor. Now the only down fall is, if you need to do anything on the first monitor with LR open it will stop the slideshow. But I can deal with that in another way.

Ah, so it works as desired until you need to do another "job", meaning you have to switch LR to another module, and that makes sense. But as long as you stay in the Tethered mode the slide show keeps running, right? That's excellent!

As to doing the other "jobs", hmm...I guess if you can come up with a work-around, cool!

Yeah, if you even change module on the first screen on click on an image in the filmstrip it will stop the slide show, so i guess it has to be on its own dedicated screen and left running and maybe use photoshop for printing on the other monitor. There are ways around it. But i know it works the way I need it to.

An option would be to do the tethered shooting on another computer with a seperate LR install but with the "watched" folder on a drive shared with the slideshow setup. More complicated, but doable...
