I've seen some amazing photos in this thread but not posted up until now. I hope these images live up to the thread! Below are a few photos from recent trip to Rotterdam in the Netherlands:

I've never really given landscape photography much of a shot, but it was a beautiful icy morning at the windmills of Kinderdijk so I gave it a go, I'm pretty pleased!

There are a few more from the Van Nelle series on Flickr, but as I was on an architecture field trip I was looking at details and you guys may not be too interested in hand rails and doors :D Besides, I hope I haven't posted too many images already, I'm perfectly happy to remove some if there is a limit.

Great shots Gavin, I once went over to Holland for work and had the camera with me, not very handy for landscapes seeing as the place is as flat as a flat thing. You managed to get a few crackers, please keep posting.

Thanks for the kind words Derek. Yes indeed, Holland is incredibly flat but at least the windmills provided some subject matter which was a big help!

This is one of the first shots I've taken with my 5D3. Unfortunately the shooting session was cut short due to a defective CF card.

I'm extremely impressed with this camera and optimistically look forward to years of use. Prior to this body I'd shot with the 5Dc since 2006. Coming from that direction the new body is reasonably intuitive although I'm not overly excited that Canon rearranged the menus. It's not a show stopper but will take me a little bit to get accustomed to.

This particular shot was done at ISO 800, 1/250s, F/10 with the 24-105. In general, I'm finding that shots I'd previously made at ISO 400 I can now easily make at ISO 1600 with very little increase in noise. This is a wonderful camera. Naturally you have to be careful with proper exposure - boosting underexposed areas in post will usually result in a bit more noise; that's pretty normal for most cameras though.

QUESTION: If I understand the instruction manual correctly, the autofocus square no longer glows RED upon focus lock, right? I'm used to my old 5Dc which always gave me that warm fuzzy. I'm still going through the manual so maybe I'm just missing some basic setting. Any "illumination" from fellow POTNs would be appreciated.

In One-Shot, mine blinks red on focus lock when the scene is dark / dimly lit. What it DOESN'T do is blink if it is daytime/outdoors, good lighting, etc. I find it annoying sometimes as it can be hard to tell if it has confirmed or not. An easy fix is just to enable focus beep, but I was told a long time ago by another photographer that my focus beep was annoying her, and I should turn it off () It annoys me too so I havn't bothered with it since.

Hi Christina - thank you for that quick response, much appreciated :D.

OK, that pretty much confirms what I've suspected then. Outdoors when I did that bridge construction scene I was getting my friendly familiar focus lock beep but no "illumination." Last week I was shooting a reception in a dim room and DID see illuminated focus marks in the viewfinder. And of course it beeped also.

I wonder if that BEEP has a volume control? Likely not.....

Another thing I'm getting used to is the level of customization you can assign to the focus system and its sensitivity. You never had that with the 5Dc. At this point I'm inclined to leave things at their default settings. Until I fully understand what is available relative to my shooting style, I'm concerned about mucking up some of the settings ;).

I've found Charlotte Lowrie's book "Canon EOS 5D Mark III Digital Field Guide" to be helpful. She has a very readable style with good examples, and the type is larger than the vendor manual :

Another good book wil be this one by David Busch:

http://www.amazon.com …=1-8&keywords=david+busch (external link)

Unfortunately it won't be available for a couple of months, but he writes very well and has a strong background. He's spoken at our local photographic society.

My 5d3 and 24-105 f4/L arrived this morning. Happy would be a massive understatement. I am overjoyed. It doesn't seem to have made my sigma 50mm 1.4 work completely well but it is better than it was on my 50d. I am hopeful that messing with the microadjustment will have a positive effect.

The 24-105 and 5d3 are absolutely stunning though! I could never have even dreamed to take such ISO1600 shots on my 50d!

Did I mention I am really happy? !!!! :)
