Thanks for the comment. This was one of those holy sh*t moment. The owl had been sitting on this particular perch/post and took off to hunt. I was preparing for it to come back to the same spot. And it did. To top it off, it came in from the side which made this capture possible. I also got a shot of it coming in from the right - but with a different wing position. I'll post that shot at some point too. I knew I had the shot as soon as I looked at the LCD. The camera used was a 5D Mark III on a 600 f4 IS II. It is a killer combo for me.

Your story reminds me of my own situations when a plan and equipment come together perfectly to get an exciting image. It is a special moment. Thanks for conjuring up good memories with your image and story.
