As someone who grew up and lived at the beach in Australia then moved to Toronto for work, I fully appreciate this comment! Some awesome photos from some gifted photographers here (patrickf117, airbutchie, Andrushka, doofuss, and many more) that are driving me up the walls waiting to go for a paddle, kitesurf and shoot (not at the same time of course, although...).

Hey Stefan! I totally feel your pain - but getting in the water, even without surfing is far better than staying dry! haha :-)

I lived in Ukraine for 3 years, and though we had no waves, we were blessed to live right on the Black Sea and could go out for a swim or snorkel. If we ever go back to spending large chunks of time there again, I will definitely be bringing a paddle board.

Waves were not right today. Sun follow that too.
Well at least didn't come back empty handed.

Nice action shot - I kind of like how the spray makes him the anonymous sponger :-)

Not technically surfing, but they all involve waves of some description...

Shooting kitesurfing and windsurfing at home (Perth, west coast Australia) is generally difficult as the sea breeze doesn't come in till the afternoon, so you're constantly shooting into the sun. Winter is easier because it's generally more overcast when the wind and swell are up. When I eventually move back home I'm pretty keen to get a housing and jump in the water with my camera, mixes the best of both worlds!

Being Perth based myself, I know exactly what you mean.

Woodmans Point does offer a bit better conditions where you can still get some reasonably good shots without shooting directly into the sun.

One for Stef_Pat to give him a taste of home....(same problems as he said above though, shooting directly into a setting sun)

And for those days when there is no swell, slam the boat with ballast and go wake-surfing (older pics from a few years ago)
