Another vote for 40D - just picked up a mint gripped copy for $340 for my 14 year old daughter who has taken an interest in the hobby. Not quite as many bells and whistles as a newer Rebel, but a much sturdier build (which is a plus IMO for a teenager who may not be as careful with it) and fewer functions (bells and whistles) to learn to use.

The school near here still uses their old 1dsmkiii's. Because of budget cut they won't be upgrading soon as they feel these should hold out a couple more years. Parents are upset, and rightly so,

Another vote for a used 40D! You should be able to get a good condition body for just over $300.

IKR. They are on hold I guess after purchasing 10 Bowens QUAD 2400's. At least the're still on track to get the 24-70mkii to replace the aging mki's.

I'm just confused why anyone would think 1Ds Mk III was inadequate for a photography course at a high school.....

No video.

And why is video necessary for a PHOTOgraphy course?

I think your choice is fine. You will enjoy the camera for a long time.

check with the teacher, see what they recommend, but the t4i or a 60D would be good choices.

But that makes no sense.

You would be surprised in certain circles as to what makes sense.

Edit: In 1985 when I graduated high school you learned to program a computer. I don't think it was even 5 years latter and programming was replaced by Windows. Some asked why not teach programming? Very few people program anymore.
