Two WOW moments, separated by about 40 years.

First wow moment: 55mm f/1.2 on an FTb. That was my "kit" lens for several years, and what I cut my teeth on as a teenager. Sadly, I sold it many, many years ago.

Second wow moment: 70-200L f/2.8II. Best lens I've ever owned (but I'm not finished buying yet! ;))

My first L. I was ready to by another camera after using it with kit lens and Nifty-Fifty.
Once I opened pictures taken with cheapest 70-200L, SOOC, I realized what it means - lens before camera.

my 50mm 1.8 made me say wow at it's extremely shallow DOF and the amount of bokeh it got wide open. With that said once I had tried a bunch of lenses that lens that keeps making me saw WOW! especially for it's price is the 40 2.8. Absolute gem.

The camera is just a tool - it is not responsible for the picture.

Yes, it was the 50mm f/1.8. And not just shooting wide open. Stopped down it was way sharper than my zoom.

it was the 70-200 II and then the 85L II and recently sigma 35. i'm still tickled everytime i use them 85 & 70-200. The sigma has been on the camera most of the time so i'm kinda getting used to it ==> less "wow"

For me it was Sigma 85 1.4
Amazing lens!, More excited by this lens rather than my 17-40L / 24-70L / 70-200L IS / 85 1.8

Bought it used in very mint condition, save a few $$$.
And saving for Sigma 35mm <<= (maybe another "wow" for me) :D
