Another crazy? how is the build quality of the 15-85 say vs the 28-135? Just curious? It would be nice if the was a store that sold canon lens locally!

I own both of these lenses. The 15-85 is excellent. The 28-135 is very good. Build of the 28-135 is not as good. The 28-135 is sharp wide open, in the center 50%. The 28-135 is a bit less sharp at 135 than it is shorter, but still very good in the center. My copy of the 28-135 looks much better when shot on FF than on APS-c.

I can think of one thing... not wanting to go through the hassle of selling which includes advertising the used (crop sensor) lens, dealing with potential buyers and/or scammers, packaging, shipping, possibility of losing (or damaging) the lens during shipment, resolving issues (if any) with the buyer and taking a bit of depreciation on top of those. Not everyone wants to go through those.

Good luck on selling that 70-300 IS. I couldn't sell my perfect condition lens for $200 (it's a $550 lens that performs fantastically). Just letting you know as I had planned on using those funds as an upgrade path, but you simply can't even give them away. I bet you would have problems selling for $50. Shipped. Just plan on owning it forever, that is what I have determined.

The good thing is they aren't costing me at thing to sit in my closet, if I don't sell them. I will throw them in the trash or something.

No objections but please be forewarned that a significant number of 15-85's perhaps the majority, develop some zoom creep between around 24 and 50mm after only a few days. Some folks claim not to have this issue, but enough do, including me, that you should at least be aware of it so you won't think you got a defective lens.

Nothing a little gaffers tape can't take care of

Mine has exactly that zoom creep. However I really don't see a problem with it.
When you are walking with it you would typically not have it extended and at 15 there is no zoom creep.

Didn't suggest its a problem. I have my own solution which I previously published, but rarely use anyway. It appears that some people are really bothered by the creep. I mentioned it to the OP so he would be aware of it ahead of time, and wouldn't think his copy was defective if it creeps.

Honestly I never thought of zoom creep (it does have some) on the 15-85 as an issue. To put it as...be "forewarned" is a bit dramatic! On my copy it's very easily managed. Either keep the zoom on the short end or use tape to keep it at a focal length you desire. No drama

28-135 has a lot of creeps in it!

I fixed my 28-135 with teflon tape. It still has some movement between 70-100, but definitely much better than before.
