Well it is a snake photo.. Banded watersnake in the grasp of a Great Egret.

I was standing on top of the rock he was under and about to put my foot about 2" in front of his face. It was a good thing I looked before I stepped down from that rock!

since its gotten to cold to get out and find wilds, I figure it would be ok to post a domestic to keep things rolling. playing with extension tubes.. next season is going to be fun!

Great stuff Mike. I can't wait for spring either. I got one of my photos of a coastal patchnose into an iphone herping app/field guide. Itching for things to pick up again.

just got home from an awesome herp trip to southern Alabama to help with a radio tag project with Eastern Indigos. have to say these are some amazingly strong snakes. one shot I can share for now.

I only have one, it is still the middle of winter here! I wasn't aware that snakes had the ability to move their eyes. While looking through the viewfinder I saw this fella move one a few times. :)
