Canon DSLR Speed Challenge #272 Competition

Competition

This week with the upcoming Super Bowl, that Maureen reminded me of, (Im not too into sports) I thought an image depicting competition would be perfect. So for this week try to get a shot of someone or something competing.

This challenge begins when posted and ends 10 PM Eastern Monday, February 6 2013. The winner will be announced shortly after.


Standard Rules apply:
Photo Submissions:

1. Camera - Any Canon DSLR Camera
2. Time - please note the date restriction described in the challenge description
3. Size - Please visit Image Posting Rules.
4. Post-Processing - do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
5. Posting - * ONE PHOTO per photographer in each challenge.* Photo Name in the message subject line.* Camera model & lens used.* Notes -- post brief EXIF data including ISO, shutter speed and aperture used.
6. Commenting - No commenting during challenge. When the posting is closed and a winner has been declared, comments can be made in this thread.
7. Keep it clean, and both Family and Work safe.
8. Have questions, PM me.
9. Have FUN!

One challenge every week, on the following schedule:

* New Topic - After winner is declared.
* Posting Starts - Right after topic is announced.
* Posting Ends -10:00 p.m. EST Monday, February 6, 2013.
* Winner from this competition decides the theme of the next one (and judges it for a winner) after this competition is closed.

Okay sorry about the delay Ive been busy and I really have my work cut out for me on this week's challenge. I was really amazed with the entries and as I'm typing this I'm not sure how I'm going to vote. But here it goes:

First Place: PhilK54 The subject matter is amazing and there is no question those bears are fighting/competing. The background isnt discracting at all and the lighting really makes the bears stand out. Congratulations Phil!

2nd Place: 1Tanker I really liked seeing the intensity in those dogs faces. They were bred to compete and they're doing it well in the shot. Although the building kind of distracts, seeing the colorful crowd in the background makes for a more interesting shot.

Third Place: Eastcoastsponger Of the three common sports entries I feel like the boxing image told the best story. Even though the rope from the boxing ring is distracting its very clear there is a winner and a loser in the picture. Good job

Now the other two sports shots were amazing. Kevan captured the facial expression and jump at the right moment and the colors are amazing, but the background was quite disctracting, especially with the gray pole going right between the two players. NHBeast's shot of the football players fits the theme well but the background being the same colors as the players makes them stand out less.

Flo the hummingbirds are such a unique, great example of competition. I thought it was a very interesting take on the theme, but I feel the hanging brown lantern thing in the background made the hummingbirds and the feeder stand out less.

Maureen the photo of your kids is technically good but its kind of hard to tell that they are really competing. Well maybe your younger son but the older one looks pretty calm, haha. Great shot though

JasonC This shot was a great one for the theme, but the shadows in the background definetely blend the subjects into it and loses some of the detail.

Kozal01 Your dogs look like they are having a great time in the snow but its also hard to tell they are competing. Also some of the detail seems to be lost in the fur, which i know is hard with Black dogs in snow. Great stop action though.

I just want you to know how hard these choices were. Everytime i thought i had the judging figured out a new entry would change my mind. And I hope my critique was okay, especially judging peoples photos who are all more talented than me.

P.S. Ducklabdad, I wasnt able to see your entry. Im not sure if it didnt get uploaded correctly or what, but I couldnt see the image so I didnt judge it, sorry.
