Ice Racing in Upstate NY

I went out to my first ice rally on frozen Caroga Lake in upstate NY this weekend. It was a ton of fun, I'm going to try to make it out to a few more before the season ends.

That looks like a hoot!! great job on the panning esp on #6. Is that a Dodge Omni? I would imagine keeping the cars exposed well with all the snow is a challenge? Are you shooting spot metering?

#6 is an older vw golf... I shot in manual, I metered in average staying about 1.5-2 stops over to compensate for the snow. The biggest challenge was actually shooting the cars midpack when there was a mist/spray in the air catching lots of light.


1d MKIII, 1ds MKII, 1D Classic, 1V, 100-400L, 70-200 2.8L, 17-40 4L, 55mm 1.2, 100 2.8 macro, Fuji X100s, Alien Bees + Pocket Wizards,

Looks great. You were lucky to have sun, as the sky contrasts nicely with the snow.
