Hi, everyone. I was excited to find this thread as I want to learn more about shooting air shows. I went to my first since taking up photography last fall and I "learned what I didn't know", if you will. I ran into the limits of my equipment, knowledge and skill. Hoping to work on the last two and rent a lens to help with the first.

I'm impressed with the shots people get just sitting near a commercial airport. I assumed something like that would bring a trip from the local police, but it looks like it's perfectly normal. I'm going to give that a shot to get myself more opportunities. Thanks for all the ideas.

Here are my very pedestrian shots. First two from the 2012 Cleveland Air Show on a day of lousy weather (redundant, I know - I already said Cleveland). The sky is only blue in about half the shots and I learned quickly the limits of the ISO on my 40D as well as the aperture and reach of my humble 55-250. But I had a great time and the shots blew away anything I ever took home back in my P&S days, so it was well worth it. These are cropped about as far as possible, hence the lack of detail.

Last one was a learn-to-fly day at a small local airport in northern Ohio. Cirrus SR-22.
