. . . and gives it a higher score than the 5D3, YET gives the 5D3 the gold award and the 6D the silver. WTF?

They judge via "classes." They probably classify the 5D3 as semi-pro and the 6D as "enthusiast" or something, which means they cannot be directly compared.

Numerical scores are generally meaningless anyway - the text and results of the review are much more telling ;)

Ah here we go I was close.

6D = "Mid-range FF camera."

5D3 = "Semi-professional FF camera."

How the hell they differentiate those classes I have no clue, but there you have it ;)

I'm not sure, it may be driven by Canon literature related to product placement. I haven't seen anything directly from Canon (though I know they provide guidance to the industry related to their product placement strategy). Here's a nice chart that outlines Canon's placement since 2000: http://en.wikipedia.org …mplate:Canon_DSLR_cameras (external link)

That's ridiculous. In effect, I just downgraded from a 5D2 to a 6D :o.

Heh. If you base your conclusion on some numeric value then the 7d would've beaten them all including Nikon d800. Hahahaha....

What I find interesting reading the "Conclusion", there seems to be quite a bit of negative tones littered in the paragraphs. I'm surprised the score was this high.

But rejoice! The 6d's natural rival Oil-leak prone d600 also share the silver sticker despite a whopping score of 87 (soundly trouncing its big brother d800).

Moral of this is to ignore the numbers. Read "between the lines". ;)

That's ridiculous. In effect, I just downgraded from a 5D2 to a 6D .

Not only that, the 7d is actually above the 6d in Canon's caste system. Didn't know that. :shock:

Pro's use Rebels. They gotta' make a profit.

5D3 is clearly for enthusiasts, like the 1D line.

Not compared to the 1DX.

Yes, laughable. :-)

Looking at it I would like one for the IQ and ff etc but it is definitely hampered a little. It is I am sure a great camera but for the price which isn't insignificant it could have a slightly better spec

For me it doesn't matter if the 6D scores more than the 5D3, only 1 x cross-type focus point scares me.

That is what I really don't get about it. I mean the T4i is all cross type! It seems like such a blatant feature omission to protect the 5D3.

To be honest I think the af thing is exagerrated. I think 11 is plenty as long as they work ok. Any review of the 6d said the af is good enough. Using af with one cross point is something i would regularly do anyway

Gents.. Time to put the rulers away and stop measuring your... um... equipment. :) But if you look at the details, the MkIII really gets hammered for value, a soft measurement, not the meatier measurements like performance.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.
