Just got this lens a few days ago - here are a few from my first outing with this lens. These are all hand held and shot through a glass window. I am confident I will get better with this lens. I love it!

Good stuff Michgirl. You are getting used to it quickly.
The 5d2 will allow slower shutter speeds. Like 1/400th or so but faster will
help with sharpness as you know.
These are good.

Thank you so much for saying so! I know I have a ways to go, but I was mighty pleased with the results for my first time with this lens.

Thanks again!

A couple of questions in regard to this lens & 5D II - I am shooting in manual with auto ISO (which only goes up to 400) and I was using f/8, as I read that wide open doesn't give sharp shots @ 400mm. Is that true? I see some pretty darn sharp shots in this thread @ f/5.6. Any tips? Should I up the ISO to obtain faster shutter speeds?

Thanks for tips & all.

:) Yes, I need to practice with Lightroom a bit more also.

Thanks for the tips, off to practice some more!

Also, don't attempt to rate the lens sharpness when you're shooting through window glass. That glass is certainly the weak link in the optical train. If you can get outdoors, perhaps in some sort of hide/blind, your shots will be much sharper.

I was down at a local beach park for sunset the other night, and had just put the 60mm Macro on to play in the tide pools while I waited for the sun to set, when something flew past that was definitely NOT a seagull. When I turned around, there was a bald eagle sitting on the beach not much more than 50 feet away from me, triggering the "OMG CHANGE LENSES NOW!!!" mode. (Luckily, for once I had the 100-400mm in my bag, figuring I'd get some sailboats at sunset.) Fortunately he had come in to eat something dead that had washed in with the tide, and he hung out for a bit until someone's dog got too close (he didn't care about people, somebody with a camera phone actually walked up within about 4 feet of him.)

These are the ones I liked the best, handheld and the light was dimming due to the setting sun so I bumped the ISO up pretty good.

Here are a couple from the 100-400's first trip to the zoo today. This is a very nice zoo lens but I need to do a little tweaking of settings and technique.
