Been thinking of getting the Σ 50 1.4
Handled it at my local shop and i must say i was impressed with the build quality.

Have read much of bad reviews about it as far as AF and that's the only thing stopping me from getting it.

Has Sigma addressed the issue yet with new builds of this lens?

I got mine two years ago and it front focused terribly. But I sent it in to be calibrated and it came back spot on. Since then it's definitely won me over. So worst case scenario you send it in to Sigma (they'll pay return shipping) and get back a beauty of a lens. I'd much rather do that than buy a Canon 50mm 1.4 again.

I likely candidate for revision under the new Sigma 'Art' line, like the 30 1.4 recently announced. But whether this year or next, anyone's guess.

how much did you find it for at the local shop? If its a good deal I say grab it, what have you to lose, and if you get a mediocre copy send it in to Sigma for calibration and you'll have a dandy of a lens that you probably wont be able to take off your camera!

The 6D has MFA... You should be able to fix any minor issues yourself.

Good points guys.

The local shop has it for the same price as other online shops, $449.

I'll stop in again and do some test shots to see how it does. Yeah, the 6D has MFA but wouldn't it be nice to have a copy that's spot-on on the get go (i know wishful thinking) ;)

But if it does not require massive MFA, I'll probably just take it. Hoping to take it with me to an upcoming trip

Great lens for the money and delivers excellent quality images. I had mine for 2 years before I bought the new 35mm 1.4 from Sigma which is better than the 50mm and super sharp!

quite happy with mine, and I would recommend it. A few years now, and many hundreds of shots, under challenging lighting, mostly wide open.

I bought a $30 copy of focustune (software to MA your lenses) and tweaked all of them (Canon and Sigma) and was very pleased with the results, if that part has you concerned. There is other software, but considerably more expensive.

Went to the shop and tested the lens out. No apparent focus issues both close or far distances.
Put an deposit down and will pick it up sometime this weeks. If there are some focus issues that come up, will try to MA.

Going to check out FocusTune to see what it's all about.

Thanks all for the advice.

Picked it up today and ............. oh well, lost the lottery again.

MA'd all the way to +20 and the thing is still front-focusing. Gonna see if I can get another copy
