Like the title says, I'm considering selling my 24-70 and going for a Tokina 16-28 (plus a little cash from the 24-70). The 24-70 is a great lens especially for my reportage work but working on a 1.3x crop, having a wide angle is quite beneficial. I have considered the 16-35 but looking at the Tokina, not only will I be saving some money but the IQ from the Tokina looks quite superb. I wouldn't know though if it is comparable to the Canon. Already considering that I will be loosing the zoom range from 28-70 and the bulb front element, is the Tokina a worthy change?

Thank you!

It is not a replacement. It would be a great complement.

Depends on what you shoot, but I personally feel that ditching the standard zoom range to work with only the wide zoom range would be detrimental if that's going to be your only lens.

I am also considering this lens, and from what I have read this lens's iq is no worse than the 16-35 mk2. My main concern are: can not put a filter on it, uncertainty about how 'weather' resistance and after sales support.

Also isn't the AF a bit dodgy compared to Canon 16-35?

Definitely. In my case though it would because financially I would only be able to keep one or the other.

Asides a sigma 50mm I have, you're correct it being my primary lens. I've had a 17-40mm before but ditched that thinking a standard would make sense. Not that is doesn't but 24mm on a 1.3x crop isn't wide enough for moments where a UWA would make much sense.

I wouldn't know unfortunately. It would be nice if someone who owns this lens could put some input!
