I have an AMD and CS6 works pretty well. AMD's good for graphics and Intel's good for multitasking so I think I'd go with AMD.

Intel beats AMD in adobe applications. On my phone so I don't have the link but I've posted it a few times before. That being said its not huge margins unless your batch processing. For single image editing or small batches you more than likely would not notice the difference. Get what you prefer.

^what about for Lightroom 4 ?

I don't use Lightroom so I don't know the performance.

Well, we all have preferences. I'm enough with AMD since I only use Photoshop and Flash.

bannedPermanent ban

Built like a year ago. I went with a cheap build since I'm not into gaming, but mainly for photography.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 Black 1090T (external link)
MB: GIGABYTE GA-990XA-UD3 (external link)
RAM: 16GB G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series DDR3 1866 (external link)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460
SSD: SAMSUNG 830 Series 128GB SATA III (external link) (boot)
Storage: A few WD and Seagate internal and external hard drives
PSU: SeaSonic X750 Gold 750W Full Modular (external link)
CPU Cooling:COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus
Case: Antec Three Hundred Illusion (external link)
Monitor: Dell UltraSharp U2412M (external link)

Runs LR 4 and CS 5 without any hiccups. You can't beat AMD for the price/performance!

Better yet - submerge the ENTIRE SYSTEM in mineral oil :D.

That's the latest concept in corporate data centers for temperature reduction and reduced energy costs associated with the overall cooling process:

Wow, I've never seen it on that scale. I've only seen people do it with desktops more-so just to see how effective it was.

That is some extreme cooling!

I know - was quite surprised too, never having seen it before.

We've been testing the concept for a while in one of our data centers with several servers that power our infrastructure and so far all is well. The mineral oil is non-conductive so there is no shorting and the fiber connectors don't take issue with the fluid either.

My only thought is that mtce or troubleshooting will be a bit messy when the techs start disconnecting things ;).

Oh, that's interesting that it has no affect on the fiber connections as well.

Yeah, that was my first though too. I wouldn't want to have to be working on an oil covered server, it would make a mess.

I do know if we'll be doing this with EVERYTHING in our Data Centers but we're at least taking the concept for a roadtest. Although I'm not sure if Cisco is really wild about the whole princple; haven't touched their gear.;)

Baan - that fish tank cooler in the video is CRAZEEEEEEE...... same kind of tank I bought my daughter for her goldfish. The plants in the tank add a nice touch too.

Can't be bothered to take a pic since it's all closed up and running but in December I built a new workstation (and sometimes gaming machine) and upgraded from:

Core 2 Quad Q9450 OC'd to 3.2GHz w/ Noctua U12
Asus P5K Pro
8GB DDR2 800
300GB Velociraptor
EVGA 560ti superclocked
Corsair HX-520 power supply
running Win 7 Pro in a Lian-Li with a long model name I've forgotten

to:

i7-3770K w/ Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
ASrock Extreme 4
32GB DDR3 1866
Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
Crucial M4 256GB
EVGA 670FTW (initially I carried over the 560Ti but I decided to upgrade)
Corsair HX-750 power supply
all on Win 8 Pro in a Fractal Designs Define R4 (much cheaper than the outgoing Lian Li and quite nice)
carried over my data drives, card reader & FW800 PCI card and bought a new optical

The old system was quiet but the new one is quieter and draws less power... yay progress.
