Haven't used this in the 'orthodox' sense but that is not to say that I am certainly enjoying this lens. So far, I've been pleased with all the Sigma lenses I've tried.

That flare is from the lens. When you shoot it wide and have the sun or a very bright light source at the edge of the frame it happens. Here's another example of it.

i've never gotten flare like that with the vertical lines though...i'm wondering if there's a filter or something causing it...

Just like stated above--it's the lens flare created by the sun. No filter.

Nope. No filter on mine when it happened. The sun in your shots is lower on the horizon so it would be less bright. The intensity of the light makes a big difference. Also, in your shots the sun is obscured a bit by clouds but you can see in the second shot that it is already starting to happen. There are a few streaks. It just isn't nearly as intense or as frequent as in the other two photos. Also, the shutter speed and aperture can increase it. I longer shutter speed can make it worse.

By the way, nice work on that first one. I really like it.

Since flare is the topic of conversation...when you know how to create it, you work with it :)

Friend of mine got a new car yesterday. Couldn't resist breaking out the Wigma. Maybe OZS2KCA and others can teach me a thing or two (like how to not get the tripod in the shot :) ).
