Does that mean this different/ slower then the HSM on the 10-20?

Different, yes. The 10-20 has the better Ring Type HSM AF. It also has full time manual focus and the focus ring doesn't move when you AF.

The 17-50 should not be acting the way you describe.

I have had mine for a couple weeks and am actaully on vacation and am giving the Sigma a really good workout in varying conditions. I am very pleased and haven't experienced hunting in low light. My Tamron 17-50 did it frequently.

Best of luck!

My replacement lens arrived today. Wow what a difference. Put it on and focused right away and very quiet. Takes very very sharp photos. Very happy right now!

I had to send my Sigma 17-50 back for replacement. The AF occasionally would hunt and never lock on even in good light. Amazon was great and send one overnight. The new lens does not have any problems with AF from what I can tell. Very happy with the performance of the lens.

The 2nd copy I received from Amazon was excellent, sharp wide open and not the slightest issue with AF. It was my go to lens on my old 7D. I sold it recently due to the move to FF... made me a lil sad!
