Tested today some old glass on 58mm focal and it look more "normal" than the classic 50mm.
Why I do not find any current lens on this size ?

I seem to remember that the normal focal length was defined (?) as the diagonal of the negative. In 24 x 36, the diagonal is 43.3mm and that 50mm slightly long.

The arithmetic definition of 'normal on the 135 format, and the commonly adopted FL of 'about 50mm' has long had many deviations. For example, from a single manufacturer, on their 135 SLR bodies they had 52mm, 55mm, 58mm; another had cameras with 50mm and others with 40mm.

There's a new Zeiss 55mm 1.4 coming out, it's supposed to be the best 50mm-ish lens ever made for the 35mm format:

That thing looks ridiculously sharp! I guess it better be for 3,000 EUR.
