The shim trick may or may not work, depending on what is actually is wrong with the lens. If the problem is in the elements themselves like mine was the shim trick won't work.

My sister, the professional baker and cake decorator once told me that my camera takes great pics. My reply was that I thought her oven baked great cakes.

Old memories :)

Well, Sigma couldn't get it to work with my camera and I no longer own this lens.

Rumors are that the newer models pictured on the left work better?

I have a newer version (on the left) and it performs perfectly wide open. I was told when I bought it that it needed MA but I have found that not to be the case. I think user error has much more to do with this lens’ reputation than this forum would lead some to believe..

You must be lucky :D Me ..... not so. I MA'd my copy all the way to +20 and it still front-focuses. Already asked my local shop to bring in another copy. Could be user error, true, but multiple tests and multiple lenses with exactly the same methodology can't be user error, or can it? Manually focused, the lens is really sharp and really would like to love this lens.

Oh yeah, mine is the new version. I don't know which one came out first, the 6D or the Σ 50 1.4 but my guess is the Σ is not optimized for the 6D yet.

Maybe I am :D ..and I certainly don’t believe it’s all user error. There’s no doubt this lens can and does have problems from time to time, but I find it hard to believe it’s as common as this forum suggests.

Can you please send some pixie dust over my way please
I'm pretty bummed that this Σ50 didn't work out for me. Was hoping to take it with me to my DC trip for those low-light shots. Hopefully the replacement arrives today and it better be much better than this one.
