I just picked up a 5D a few days ago! I have to saw, there is a HUGE difference compared to my 60D. I do miss some of the conveniences of the 60D however so I will probably sell both and get a 5Dm2 or m3 in the near future. But until then:

Thanks! Yeah I'd say keep on experimenting with your settings. A flash to bounce definitely helps A LOT when you are trying to freeze action of your kids. Also allows you to stop down a little so that more of their face is in focus.

I already invested in a 430EX II, I will keep experimenting!

I have only just bought my 5dc and I gotta admit at first I was a little reluctant to buy it after seeing alot of pics like the one above with what looks like an aversion to colour and clarity, obviously it is for "artistic effect" but it looks like a cheap 1970's snapshot to me, I clearly don't get the appeal for this type of photography as there seems to a few on this thread that love this style.
I can't wait to get out and try mine but it is hard when it is raining and I am working nghts....

A good photographer can take extraordinary photos anywhere, with any camera and any lens while a mediocre one will take mediocre ones everywhere, with every camera and every lens.
Never limit yourself with what others think you should do. Shoot what you find interesting, exactly the way you want to.

Yep, it's a pretty popular look nowadays, for better or for worse... lots of photo pre-set packs loaded with that kind of stuff. A lot of wedding photos look like that now too.
