Not exactly what I was thinking about.

How do you want people to compare two nonexistant cameras for you then?

I know... but it is most likely much more accurate than any answer you might get about features, etc.!

Well, since people are actually talking about nonexistent cameras, I thought someone might have some actual info about them. Silly me. Quite frankly it doesn't mean anything to me. I'm actually sorry I asked.

Seems to me that Nikon just wants to stop selling the D7000 at $900 and sell a slightly newer D7100 at full price again at $1200.

When I first read the specs, this was my thought exactly.

The AF system is the main functional improvement. Everything else is just gimmicky.

Chill out. I have a 40D and am still perfectly happy with it for everything except video. Having the latest and greatest won't make your photos any better.

Lighten up... I was not intended to be a serious (or critical) answer... it was a joke.

With the D600 having oil splattering all over its internals and the 1/3 of the D800's AF points that are on union strikes, I can't wait to see what the new d7100 will bring to the issues table.

Any guesses?
Green tint on LCD? Oops that's taken by d800/d4.
Hmm.... auto shut off after max 6fps burst at 12bits?

Can't wait. ;)

Nikon's been rushing out stuff like crazy in a bid to chase the market share. And i don't know if it is a good thing with the well documented issues of the latest nikon bodies.

Nobody will have any specifics on these until at most 1-2 weeks before the official announcement. This is the way it has been for quite some time, Canon is quite good at keeping most of the specs of new cameras secret. That is why you received the responses you did. There is no way to know price or capabilities at this time. ;)

Invariably, it will be fps, # of card slots, speed, and AF functionality that will differentiate the 70D and 7D2, as an educated guess.

Better they take their time and get it right, without QA/QC issues, than rushing something to the market...

Agreed

Why would they start now--the early adopters have made such great beta test subjects up to this point. ;)

I really wonder if Canon has anything available soon. We all sort of know Nikon could do a 24 mp crop sensor because sony has one already. But canon has launched 2 new crop bodies recently on their venerable 18 mp chip.

If they do, great but what it is going to be? a 20mp chip? And how will it perform? The sensor in the 5D3 isn't exactly ground breaking when compared to the 5D2 in RAW. In some ways the 5D3 chip was a non-event.

Another thing is they need a new f2.8 standard zoom for crop. The 17-55 is getting a bit long in the tooth and it shows. It really couldn't make full use of the 18mp on the existing cameras.

As to all the talk about nikon production issues. We have had some issues with the last few pro/semi-pro bodies canon has pushed out. AF for the 1D, and 7D and the light leak for the 5D are just the 3 off the top of my head. And the not fully baked AF on the EOS-M could be consider an issue as well.

What really bugs me is the clearly price level based design decisions they have made. The "retro" AF system plus low flash sync and shutter speed on the 6d (while cramming in wifi and GPS), sort of makes you wonder who came up with the feature list. The continual refusal to put a tilt screen on their higher end bodies (people do shoot 5D3s for video yes?) is another strange decision.

It's not that I want to bash them. It's just that the company doesn't seem to really innovate of late.
