Yes, that lens exists and can be purchased any time, It's the Canon CN-E 30-300mm T2.95-3.7 L S, (external link) an EF-mount lens from Canon's Cinema line. The lens is priced at US $45,000 or €34,000. For various reasons, you're not likely to see this lens in use anytime soon

Hahahaha...lmao!
Smart-ass, aren't you :D

It's getting closer but still a far way off from being a "perfect lens" with price being one of the main faults....from there, there is the size/weight issue along with the fact that it can't do 500mm (or even 400mm) at f2.0 for that matter ;)

Sorry. Should have linked to another Canon lens with a wider focal length range. It's the Canon XJ100X9.3B AF/P01-DFSAF41. (external link) 9.3-930mm range. US $222,000 or €170,000.

Note the "bill me later option!"

Or the "Lease for as low as $7530.00 per month".....I guess that must sound like a bargain for some :)

Many times on this forum, someone will ask why a fast lens with a very wide focal length range is not made for Canon DSLRs. When it's revealed that a Canon lens meeting those specifications already exists, but that it's a video lens, and especially when the size (Digisupers typically weigh 50lbs or 24kg) and six-figure price of the lens is revealed, there's a little more understanding. Oh, by the way, I'm aware that the image circle from the Canon Digisuper HD video lenses does not cover the imaging area of any Canon DSLR (only 2/3 inches for the Digisuper lenses).

Short enough for landscaping? I'd go with a string trimmer

Yeah, the answer is: "The lens you want can be made, but you wouldn't buy it!"
