Had my 70-200 in my bag for a few weeks, haven't really had the time to take much photos. My lens has never been dropped or abused and noticed this splitting crack in the body. It appears that there is a "casting" seam on both sides of the lens and this is where it's splitting. I've attached a photo of one side where the seam (yes it's hard to see) is still good and the other side where it's splitting.

and on a side note my newly acquired 17-50 the OS quit working. I should get my replacement 30mm 1.4 in tomorrow and I think on monday I will ship out all 3 with my 7D and have them calibrate everything and repair also but to my camera body. I'm thinking of ditching my 85mm and getting the sigma also and send all 4 lenses.

anyone ever send their body with the lens to sigma? any experience?

EDIT: The lens is still under 3 years of warranty. I had the OS unit in this same lens replaced about 5 months ago. All my sigmas have warranty.

Ouch, that is unfortunate. Hopefully not a terribly expensive repair. Under warranty?

Good luck with Sigma!

is your 100-300 the dg ex version? how do you like the lens. My cousin just picked one up and says it's AF is as fast as the 85 1.8

It is. I just got the lens last week. Absolutely fantastic piece of glass. AF is snappy, great colors and contrast, no IS but not a huge concern for me.

Sent my T2i with 30 1.4 to Sigma for focus adjustment. It took about 8 business days to get it back, but it was spot on.
Good luck with your repair.

I really worry about Sigma quality control personally I wouldn't want them touching my 7D. I just bought a Sigma 17-50 OS and right out of the box it's F up. I am sending it back tomorrow and don't think I will go Sigma again. What I find odd is there are several post here about the same issue I had with mine

Wow, so you have problems with all three of your Sigmas? Haven't you had a failed OS on the 70-200 too in the past?

I really like my Sigmas but if I had that kind of luck with them, I sure wouldn't be talking about getting another.

Realize that more people will come forward with complaints than otherwise happy lens owners. The complaints will also stand out more/draw more attention.

I'm not complaining. Yes the OS failed once in my 70-200, I sent it off and in 8 days I had it back in my hands fixed. Good service. The 17-50 I just purchased from a guy on this site but have all paperwork to warranty it. The IQ so far blows the 24-105 I had out the water and the old tamron 17-50. Very sharp copy.

I'm a guy who understands stuff happens. When the price drop of the 30mm happen I bought one. Got it. probably the sharpest lens I have when it was at or above 2.8 I just felt it was a tad "hazy" from 2.0 or less. I didn't buy a lens to use at 2.0, I bought it to use soley at 1.4 only. I'm picky. I've seen other samples out there that were tack sharp and I am willing to find that one copy that works for me.

I'm a hobbyist... this is just what I do :P
