...crash a wedding(several)and take pictures, have someone else other than family members review it for you. You could post the photos here and have the wedding pros critique it for you. until then, practice, practice, practice!!!

What else do I NEED? Just to get decent photos and work my way into getting ALL the right equipment?

My advice is to rent more gear for your wedding. At a minimum you should have a backup body, and maybe a 50mm prime. I would also rent (or buy) a flash like a 580ex.

I would also come to terms and understand your clients expectations. If they know this is your first wedding OR that you have very limited experience with weddings, then its OK. Everyone is on the same page. If your selling yourself as an experienced wedding photographer, your client might be disappointed.....Might...they also might love your work.

You CAN go out and shoot your first wedding and and do a good job. If you understand the basic fundamentals of photography like aperture, shutter speed, exposure and flash you will do OK as long as you dont miss key shots....

this is not a portrait section like someone mentioned here, a wedding is lots of running around all day and you need to know those moments that you should not miss.

^^^
This is great advice. You can be the best technical photographer in the world but you need to understand the flow of a wedding and when to get certain shots. The B&G isn't going to wait for you to set up and get the shot, you need to be there or its gone forever....Unfortunately the only way to learn that is by shooting weddings. You might figure some stuff out by looking at wedding video tutorials...

If you do not know what equipment you need to shoot a wedding, you should not be shooting weddings. Full stop.

This is all that needs to be said.

Also contracts, contracts, contracts. If they don't like the photos and you don't have an iron clad contract they can sue you and your husband since you live in a community property state.

Some of the best advice ever, here. I always find that scorpio_e has advice that helps me, personally. He, or she, knows what they are talking about. Use this site to your advantage, but get out and practice.

I'd hate to say it...but I think she'll do fine. After looking at her FB page, her photography is good and her business sense is even better. Communication/friendliness is sometimes more important than experience.

Of course, there's no substitute for light or fast lenses. Although a good eye and good communication can more than make up for it. We shoot along side all types of wedding photographers. Gear, equipment, and experience do not automatically make you a better photographer or business! I've seen new $500 photographers with a rebel put $4000 pros to shame.

OP.. I would see if you can go to the rehearsal to familiarize yourself with the venue and ceremony. Good luck!

If the light ain't there it ain't there. It doesn't matter how good your communication is it won't change that fact.

Really? Booking several weddings then ONLY AFTERWARDS thinking about finding out what equipment she'll need and what it actually involves doing... that is good business sense to you?

Not only that but if she stuffs up and a client does go to sue, this thread alone will be enough to demonstrate some level of negligence by the photographer.
