Great moon shot Kiwi Kid, I wish we had those NZ nights here! The odd day I can get a good shot :p

Nice detail in the Cardian Fotobuff!

Here is a RTH from the other day, 7d + 400mmf5.6 + kenko 1.4x TC. Crappy light but I'm fairly happy considering. Also found an Eagle but I Fked up the exposure and it only flew by once! I might be able to salvage it some.

did you tape the pins? You shouldn't have autofocus with the kneko + 400 5.6. Or, did you manually focus this?

No taping required, the Kenko 1.4x MC4 DGX is non-reporting, AF works decently with my 7D however the center 5 points can suck (IE hunt) sometimes. I find it hunts way more in one-shot, In AI servo the center points work pretty well. All the outer points are super snappy... like the TC isn't there!

My T2i's center point works perfectly with the TC... its spot on, way better than the 7D center point... going to try the T2i for BIF soon. I need to try the 400mm on 8.5m - infinity limiter too, that may help dramatically.

Seems like canon gimped the 7D's center 5 points for a reason... Next firmware update? lol

Here are some from today. My goal was to test the AF with my new kenko 1.4x MC4 DGX and my 7D (560mm f8). It seems to work decently, generally if a shot didn't come out it was my fault or there was a really busy background. Lighting was decent, sun coming in and out of clouds. Also a side note, my T2i's center focus point is DEFINITELY way better than the 7D's center point with the TC... The lens acts like the TC isn't even on it focus speed wise with my T2i... weird.

I've just bought this lens and am truly blown away by it's quality, and ease and lightness of use. The surfing pic was a huge crop but I was quite close to the grey finch (no idea what it is ... I'm in the Canary Islands at the moment but it isn't one of those). Hand held it's a breeze and you can carry it round all day. I'm completely sold on it, what a great lens for a fantastic price. What's more is that I did the full calibration on FoCal software, and the lens is at its absolute sharpest at f5.6!! What a bonus!

mrjinnx, glad you found this lens! Its truly amazing, the AF speed is crazy and the IQ is probably nearing the best of even the more expensive telephotos by Canon. Here is a shot with my kenko 1.4x TC. The sun had just set and the moon looked cool against the dark blue sky. I think that atmosphere conditions weren't very good but it turned out ok.

Great shots, indeed sharp! Can't wait to upgrade my body to get sharp images with mine.
Btw, might wanna fix your sig ;) It's not the 400 f4.5 hehe
