yeahI use it but Im not good with it
usually between 20-60
I shoot at 3200 iso cuz its so dark
Ive seen 6400 iso pics better than mine
frustrating

thanks

maybe Im a better football guy

It's funny that you only shot 300ss and 3200 ISO and they look that grainy. I just shot 640ss ISO 5000 on an 95mm 1.8 lens and they look sharper than 3200 ISO. The gym was very dark. I also used a 7D body.

I got a 135L/2 last week so I've been using that on a 5D3 for the "wide" shots and then I use a 200/1.8 on a 1D4 for the "tight" shots.

Looks like I lost the EXIF when I added the watermark layer, but they were typically ISO 3200, f/2, 1/800"-1/1000".

Nice frozen action. I have that 135L with a 5Dc but my kids gym is too dark to get up into 1/800.

burnet44: I am sure there is a bit more you could get out of these if you are shooting RAW. This is a quick edit of your jpg.

The Auto button in LR can be a decent starting point. I often use it to see what it gives. But most always some other adjustments can be made.

All I did to this photo was:

white balance adjustment
some more sharpening
a heavy dose of edge masking
some noise reduction

I find the biggest gains can be had with the sharpening tools. Don't be afraid to sharpen a goodly amount, but then temper that with some edge masking to make sure you are sharpening the desired objects in the photo and not also the noise.

In LR, after you add some sharpening, hold down the option key on a Mac (Alt key on a PC) while adjusting the masking slider. It will show you what is being sharpened (in white) and what is not being sharpened (in black). Try it and you will see what I mean.
