For me it was the 85 f/1.2L, the original. Painterly tonal quality. Per the OP though, the 35mm f/1.4L came along later in my lens kit, and it's a wow/goto lens for my 7D, perfect match for a cropped sensor camera.

My first WOW moment was putting a Sigma 500mm f/4.5 EX HSM prime on my 10D...

I'd been birding with zoom lenses for some time, from a 70-300mm, to a 70-200mm f/2.8, and then for some time with the original sigma 50-500mm...

As soon as I saw the clear viewfinder image that amount of light gathering glass could offer, as soon as I saw the detail, I knew it was super telephoto prime for me from now on.

My first WOW, like so many others, was when I hooked up my 70-200 f/4 l for the first time. That was an amazing moment. I love that lens even though I am in the process of selling it for the Sigma 70-200 2.8 os.

The Canon FD 50mm f/1.8 that came on my AE-1 I bought in 1980. It was my first SLR. The whole camera made me say, "wow!"

24-70L until i got my 5D Mk II..

Because you don't like the FF performance? Just selling my 24-70 this week and it has fallen out of favor in my lineup - maybe a consequence of my 5D mkII as well...

For me is was the 70-200 2.8L II. It is the primary lens my son uses on his 7D....and that was a couple of years ago. Since then I upgraded my 20D to a 5D3 that came with the 24-105L and I purchased the 70-200. Now both of these lenses make me go Wow. Both are just great lenses.
