Clever. It's almost hidden because it looks like part of the surroundings.

Okay so today I picked up a couple pieces of Matheson Select Hardened welders glass (4.5x5.25) and a Dremel diamond cutting wheel. I'll admit that I've only skimmed over the posts in this thread. I've seen the simple rubber band method as well as cutting the glass while Gorilla glued to a filter ring.

What I haven't seen is the glass simply cut down to 100mm and slid into say a HiTech Filter Holder or Lee. Is this even in this thread or am I wasting my time looking? I figure it must be easier to cut one straight line rather than a circle.

When/if I can do this what type of material would I use as a seal for no light leaks?

I remember this one where someone tried this and had to use tape to fix the light leaks and this one I remember quite well and may be worth the try if you have the tools and the penitence for it.

I found a couple of bits of welding glass I bought about 18 months ago and never got round to trying them out so cleaned them up and fashioned up a holder using an adapter ring, blutac and some heavy duty black tape to ensure no light leaks. Headed up to the coast and came back with this:

IMAGE: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8371/8498865556_3bbc9d43ef_c.jpg

Details are: 5D with Sigma 24-70 f2.8, 24mm, ISO50, f11, exposure was just over 12 minutes.

any comments and advice greatly received!
