Fisheye filter for zoom lens

Looking for a fisheye filter for my Canon 17-55 67mm filter front lens. I tried two of those so called fisheye wide angle attachments but they do not render the fisheye effect, round bubble effect so I got my money back, they do not work as advertised.

Does anyone know if there is a screw in filter that gives the fisheye effect? A fisheye lens is far too expensive and that is why I'm settling for a screw in filter that does about the same thing.

Hi shooting - for what you want to achieve, it sounds like you'll have to go the "real lens" route if you weren't satisfied with inexpensive screw in filters. Check out Ali's link above. In this type of item you pretty much get what you pay for.

Look at the ones for camcorders, the ones marketed to DSLRs are crap.

What kind of camera do you have - crop or full frame sensor? If you have a crop sensor camera the Rokinon 8mm that Ali linked to will do a good job of fisheye. I have that lens. On a full frame sensor camera it will give a image with black borders all around. Kind of expensive for a lens that I don't use very much, but it can produce interesting images. There is a relatively inexpensive SW program, Fisheye Hemi, that can clean up curved edges pretty nicely. Think those add on lenses are going to be less than what you want. They are more WA (and poorly) rather than fisheye.

Your better off with a real fish-eye lens like a Samyang 8MM and it's under $300. It's manual focus but with fish-eyes, it's easy.

I have the 50d, crop..Like the lens, just not the price..I'll only use it once or twice on each wedding..not much use for it other than that..I'd like to have the bubble fish eye effect without any dark edges...guess I will suffer without..can't afford anything over $100...I'd like to have just a plain old screw in glass filter but can't find those anywhere..saw plenty of them in my film days.

What's your widest lens now? Maybe you can just add the effect in post. You won't get the awesome FOV of a true fisheye lens, but for 1-2 shots, it might give you the effect you want.

Oh ok..my wides is the 17-55 zoom..not the kit 18-55 but the 17-55..I'd love to try to creat it in post if it doesn't entail much work..Yeah, just 1 or 2 pics per wedding is all I want..the main one is I would put the camera on delay exposure and raise it up on a monopod and have it shoot the ceremony from above and have the fisheye look to it. A pro friend of mine did it with his fisheye lens and it was very cool.

Now comes with removable lens hood to fit full frames. Boy that cheap manual focus lens outperformed my Canon fisheye in many situations.

I have a cheap fish-eye filter that I screw'd into my 10-22 using a 77-58mm filter converter. The resulting image has the complete black circle. At 15mm, that lens combo still produces the complete circle. If you can get your hands on an EF-S 15-85 or some other lens that goes to 15mm, then that may work for you.

Since he has a crop camera (50D) the 15-85 will not give him any fisheye effects like the 8mm Rokinon will. I have the 15-85 with a T1i and get no fisheye effect at the 15mm setting - just tilted perspective.

What I meant was the OP could screw his fisheye filter into a slightly wider lens to get the "circle" effect. On my 10-22mm set to 15mm, I can get that effect. So maybe the OP could also get it on a 15-85mm lens. Of course, this requires getting another lens which may be out of the question.

I have the 18-55 kit lens but don't want the black circle..I would like to have the entire image in the viewfinder with the circle effect. I could do the same thing in the lens effects in CS6 though....

Ah, then I misunderstood. CS6 sounds like a winning solution.
