A few shots from the track yesterday. Was lucky enough to score corporate tickets but didn't spend much time in the stands. Crap for shots
Until this year the cars have all been local companies. Ford V Holden (GM)
This year marks a new ear where other builders are allowed into the series.
Started with Nissan and Mercedes AMG
The cars are much like NASCARs in that they are all the same chassis with bodies on top. Long gone are the days when we actually run production cars in our sport. Much to my dislike.
Any way enough with the rant.
All shot through the guard fence.

Great shots.

I have to correct you on the point about them all being the same chassis. Each manufacturer has to produce race cars utilising road car chassis. In the case of Ford and Holden they actually take standard chassis from their road car production line, and modify them to take the race suspension, engines, transmissions, etc. These are then sold to the teams that race under that particular manufacturers banner.

Nissan and Mercedes are yet to release their road cars, and I'm suspecting (I could be wrong here) that their road car production line will be a smaller run of vehicles than Ford/ Holden produce, and therefore their road cars will be based on the race car chassis, rather than race cars based on a road car chassis (as Ford/Holden currently do (at least to start with whilst they find their feet in the series).

Currently just a P&S, but watch this space.

Looks like you had a great spot Peter, you got some great shots of the cars. Pity the other Kelly brother's cars did not look like that at the end. At least they put up a better showing than the Benz's, which was quite a surprise. I thought they would have come straight out of the box hot to trot. How was the heat? I went a few years ago and it was so bloody hot, the whole week was over 40 degrees and I swore I'd never go back haha

Thanks guys. I don't do motor sport much. Clipsal is about it for me.
Lloyd it was a great day. I got a little burnt but not much. Temp was in high 20's C or 80's F I guess
I managed to find a spot on East Tce with a run off where the fence was close to the guard fence. Just inside to make the most of the fencing disappear.
I think the general entry areas get the best spots for shots unless you are an official CAMS or Clipsal photog. Maybe I'll look into that in future.

Street races don't give a huge scope for variation at the best of times and with credentials it would have to be really hard, so on the angle you have done quite well.

What I do have to say is that you really need to bring your shutter speed down a lot, you can shoot a car head on at 250th and slower and still have no issues with sharpness but you will loose that parked look and that will improve your images out of sight. The slower shutter with the panning that it will require will also help separate the cars from the background.

Good effort.

As I just said on Andrews post above. There are very few in fact this location was the only place I found where I could get past the fence. It was at a corner with very little chance of panning. So without a high shutter I was not going to get anything dencent.
I was not happy either with the shutter speed I had to use. Other shots with slower speeds most of the time the cars were out of frame before I pressed the button. Most of these were taken on high speed continuous. 3 shot burst. There was bugger all time to follow through on any panning. Yes I'd have loved to get some motion in the wheels.
But thanks for the input
