I will singly-handily keep this thread alive!

Went on a vacation to Jay Peak, VT last week, had a great time around the base area with this lens.

Got mine on e-bay about 4 years ago for <$600. I use my Canon 400/5.6L for most of my birds now, but this lens is a great zoo lens as well as for indoor/outdoor sports. I also take it on vacation in lieu of the 400 to give me the versatility of the zoom.

It's a little slow for indoor sports

No, actually it has worked out very well for me for shooting indoor HS basketball. I guess that depends on what ISO you (and your camera) feel comfortable shooting at. Would a single-stop faster lens be more versatile? Sure, but you will also pay several times the price for it.

I've had the lense since 06 , bought mine brand new . For basketball I use the Sigma 50-150m 2.8 . Love both of them , but the 100-300mm f/4 is my favorite ;) Love it for baseball ....I also use it for wildlife with the 1.4 converter ....

I have the sigma 50-150/2.8 as well, but find it a bit short for basketball. like the lens, though.

Just sold my 100-300 and replaced it with a 120-300. It´s been a fantastic lens and my primary use have been sport. The AF have been surprisingly fast and accurate but I have missed the IS and weather sealing shooting in all kind of weather north of the Arctic Circle. Hands down: This must be the lens that gives most "bang for bucks".

I continue to hope that Sigma will release a revised 100-300 with OS. I currently have the Canon 70-300L and wish for a faster alternative that is still handholdable (the 70-200Ls are too short, Sigma 120-300 way too big).

Then I see some of the shots in here and I wonder what i am waiting for ... non-OS version looks awfully good.
