Hi all,

Im new to the forum and pretty much new to photography..Although I have had my Canon 550d for a couple of years Id like to go to the next level..Thus im interested in purchasing some lighting..
Given Im learning the lighting side of things Ive been advised to purchase a number of speedlights which will allow me to be mobile etc..
I was told to look at the Yongnuo speed lights, however should I look at buying a 580ex11 for the master and use the Yonguo for the slaves? Are they wireless, will it work with I-TTL and can I control the power of the Yonguo flash via the camera/master flash?

I plan to take portraits of kids and innocent family members standing nearby.
Appreciate your advise

Brave new world you're jumping into ;) But it's a cool one!

YN flashes are pretty well regarded and they do have TTL models. You will need triggers that support TTL in that case. The 550d does not have wireless flash control so YN or Canon flash will need TTL supported triggers regardless of which you choose.

The Yongnuo YN 622C units can be used for ETTL or manual, but they are tranceivers and operate as masters themselves, so will not be controlled by the 580 as master.

Both the 600EX-RT and ST-E3-RT will only work with Canon RT. Frequency is different.

600EX-RT can also revert back to the older optical control Master mode.

(But IMHO it wouldn't make much sense to buy a $600 RF flash and use it in optical master mode when you could buy a $150 550EX and do the same... or buy (4) 550EX's for the same price)

I would future proof but if you go with Canon then you go all out or go home. The 600 is a sweat flash.
