I was out this morning a saw this guy out of the corner of my eye. Whipped around and grabbed a few shots as he flew off into the woods.

Very nice Pileated shots, ScubaDude.

Thanx for the kind words. Yesterday morning I got these shots of a very tame Snowy Egret who hangs around a fishing pier begging for handouts. He kept walking towards me, getting closer than the minimum focusing distance of my 400mm, and I had to keep backing up. Eventually, he figured out that I had no food for him and flew off. I've posted a few more in the "Birds" section of the forum.

Anyone using a lens coat with this lens? I'm after one that covers the whole thing with hood extended. Most of them seem to have gaps :/

I use it ... it has small gaps. It does cover the hood. Works fine and protects the lens.

In the field I simply use the cut off sleeve of a long-sleeved, cuffed camo t-shirt. It protects and covers well, including the hood, and I cut it long enough to cover over the camera too when I want to do so. I also cut out a little square on the underside so the tripod ring plate can be exposed for mounting to a tripod when desired.

Best of all . . . the old camo t-shirt was free of course!
