Was wondering, do y'all always carry your camera with you in your vehicle so that you'll have it handy if/when you see that once in a lifetime shot or something that you see in the moment to snap?

Or, do you plan your photo outings? Plan your shoot already having a subject in mind?

I usually try to have my camera with me as much as possible, but If I know I'm going to be someplace where my car will be parked unattended for a while (like a movie theater, or at a friend's house), I will most likely just leave the gear at home.

I do both: there are planned shoots that are part of ongoing projects I've been working for a couple of years. These are often weather and lighting dependent so those tend to be a bit more planned.

I also allow for more "spontaneous" work by carrying the camera in my regular work bag. It's been integrated into my lifestyle for more years than I can remember. There's visual opportunity everywhere and I like to grab it when it happens :D. - Stu

My phone is always with me and I use it quite often. I have a compact in the car (Nikon 8700) when I need something a bit better than the phone as it has a pretty decent lens and great optical zoom. My DSLR comes with on planned photo ops but is not normally in my car.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

No, b/c in my day-to-day life, I don't run into that many great, photographic opportunities. Not to mention, bringing my camera with me all the time is a burden. It's heavy, it's another bag to carry on my commute -- I just can't see why I'd bring it with me on a random workday, to work (where I am in a cubicle all day), and back home again. My coworkers would look at me like I have three heads if I start taking pics at work, lol.

I sometimes take a camera along if I suspect an opportunity, otherwise it stays home. Bringing it along to simply have it is far too much trouble IMO.

Mine used to be a second, mildy cumbersome bag also, but then "built" a messenger bag discussed in this thread:

https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1010634

It accomodates body and "work stuff" with no difficulty.

The MAJOR advantage I find for myself is taking advantage of the beautiful early morning light coming into work, and the great high contrast light I see going home. I can't get light like that in the middle of the day. Most of my keepers have been captured during those hours.... the opportunities are everywhere with just a little bit of planning.

I'm in cube country too SwissMissy and coworkers would be less than thrilled if I started snapping their pictures too ;). Although I have gotten some great weather views out the window; We are 14 floors up.

Gear stays at home except for jobs. Besides if something extraordinary happens, like a plane crash, a tsunami, or a meteorite exploding, I can see it on youtube before I can process my own shots.

Carrying with me is a usual thing but never leave it in camera. I hate it when they malfunction or even the cheaper plastic parts melt...

I always have a camera with me, always...

It may be locked in the trunk or the back of the van, but it is never more than a few seconds away from being placed into service.

Once, a long time ago, I left my camera behind while I ran out for what should have been a quick errand and I tripped across a small plane crash that happened right in front of me and I was camera-less, I took me weeks to get the kink out of my leg that resulted from kicking myself in the arse for leaving my camera behind...

Carry mine with me all the time - shopping, going out, going to sit in Starbucks and work.... keep thinking about buying a smaller walk around camera but rather like the weight/size of mine.

iPhone because I need phone. And Olympus XA film RF with B/W 400 film. Because I like it on film, I like how small camera is, yet it is true 35mm.
I used to take 500D with me always, then 5Dc with me always. But it is too big.

iPhone, Instant processing.
